Reinforcement Sub-programme. Consolidation Modality (Ministry of Education)

The Project Ad Futurum of the University of Oviedo was granted a subsidy of 410,000 € in the in the 2010 call of the "Campus of International Excellence". The technical commission, appointed by the Ministry of Education, appraised positively three of the projects presented by the Asturian academic institution: "Development of Vocational Training Centres in the Campus", "Creation of International and Inter-university PhD Schools and Graduate Centres" and "Adaptation to the European Higher Education Area".

This new subsidy reinforces the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Oviedo, awarded in 2009. The 2010 call of the Ministry of Education includes two types of subventions: the sub-programme of excellence, shared among 14 proposals, and the reinforcement sub-programme, with 400 actions submitted and 105 selected, three of them presented by the University of Oviedo. Among all the projects, the University of Oviedo is listed in the top ten.

The three proposals of the University of Oviedo that have been granted a subsidy in the 2010 call are the following:

Development of Vocational Training Centres in the campus. This programme, which has received 70,000 €, is intended to reinforce the collaboration between the university and the vocational training centres by extending the work placements for vocational training students. In addition, this proposal includes the integration of the Professional Project Module in the academic offer the University of Oviedo and the participation of university lecturers in teaching activities of vocational training.

Creation of international and inter-university PhD Schools and Graduate Centres. This project will receive 40,000 € for the development of the International Graduate Centre and the International PhD School. It includes scholarships for doctoral theses and the creation of Erasmus Mundus Masters as well as international and inter-university Masters' Degrees.

Adaptation to the European Higher Education Area. This project was granted 300,000 € and includes several key actions: reorganization of university centres, promotion of lifelong learning, new singular lecture halls open to society, and reinforcement of career guidance and counselling.

INNOCAMPUS Call (Ministry of Science and Innovation)

The University of Oviedo has been granted with € 3 m intended to finance R & D & i and Transference projects in the INNOCAMPUS 2010 Call of the Ministry of Science and Innovation. The Project presented by the Asturian academic institution sets "Strategic Actions in R & D and Transfer: Internationalization and Local Integration in Asturias".

This subsidy will support the development of the Cluster of Energy, Environment and Climate Change and the Cluster of Biomedicine and Health using infrastructures in three areas: research, the attraction and generation of human resources and the promotion of infrastructures aimed to foster transfer knowledge and collaboration with the business sector.

This proposal is to be included in the area of sustainability and sets a relevant foothold for the clusters of the Campus of International Excellence. The INNOCAMPUS programme implies the joint action of the Ministry, the Principality of Asturias, the University of Oviedo and the social agents.

The universities applying for the INNOCAMPUS 2010 call are those institutions awarded with the Campus of International Excellence in 2009 and those ones selected this year by the technical commission of the Ministry of Education in the 2010 edition. All the projects selected in this programme set specific actions to increase the scientific and technological capacity of Spanish Universities and to promote technology transfer to the business and the production sector.
